Pahrump (10/30/2005)

We left Portland last Monday and drove to the Rogue River. We spent one night there and drove on to Red Bluff. We stayed there at the same park where we spent part of last winter when the truck needed a new transmission. Sure was nicer to be there with a vehicle instead of on foot. After Red Bluff we drove to Reno/Sparks. We spent two nights in Sparks, had dinner in downtown Reno on the first night, the second day I worked on my quilts and we left the next morning for Mina. After Mina we drove to Pahrump just outside (50 miles) of Las Vegas.
In Pahrump we stayed at the Terribles Lakeside RV Park. It is a very nice park, reminds me a lot of lake Pleasant in Bothell. It has a central lake with all kinds of birds. This lake also has kayaks and paddle boats available. Of course it has a casino (it is, after all, in Nevada). Sunday we drove to Death Valley. It was a beautiful day. First we drove to Zabriskie Point, where we took some photos. The badlands there were awesome. Then we drove along the narrow one way Artists Drive, with more awesome views. Near the end of Artists Drive we stopped at Artists Palette. The colors of the ravines and rock formations were just beautiful. The last thing we did was take the 2 mile hike up Golden Canyon to the Red Cathedral. All in all an awesome day.
