20060212 - Crystal River / Seattle / Crystal River

20060212 - Crystal River
We spent most of this last week in Seattle. I had medical appointments on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. On Monday I saw Dr Jacobs my Oncologist. So far (Hurray) there is no recurrence of the cancer, and since it has almost been 2 years since the last episode, I am nearing a major milestone. On Monday I also had my appointment with Dr Vesselle my ophthalmologist. I started a new medication for glaucoma and the pressure has improved so that was also good news. I was still not over my cold (and chronic cough) so on Tuesday and Wednesday although I had lunch with friends from Symetra, I did not go visit the office. On Thursday I had appointments with Dr Hunter (Radiation Oncologist) and Dr Hughes (Internal Medicine). Both appointments went well although Dr Hughes needed a chest X-Ray to rule out anything with the cough. On Friday I spoke with a diabetic educator to help me figure out how to carb count to get better glucose control. Friday was my birthday and our Spokane family had a surprise birthday party for me. It was really nice to see all of them and especially to have a surprise party. We also met Eleanor Ruth, the baby who received the last quilt I made. What a sweet girl.

This week on Thursday Rich and I went on a mini Quilt Shop Hop. There are 7 Quilt fabric shops on Highway 19/98 between Crystal River and Tampa. Highway 19/98 has a lot of little strip malls, not Rich’s favorite road. I ran into a couple of other ladies who were also doing a mini shop hop. I had a great time visiting the shops. It is amazing how different each shop is and how different the fabric choices are at individual shops. On Friday I came down with a full-blown cold with my signature chronic cough. We were scheduled to fly to Seattle on Saturday, so I crawled out of bed and packed us up.

This week I took an awesome quilt class ‘Floating Autumn Leaves‘ from the book Casting Shadows by Colleen Wise. For this class we took leaves, laid them on black fabric, sprayed bleach (to discharge the fabric), then rinsed the fabric (to stop the discharge), then added fabric leaves (slightly offset from the original leaves to set the shadow). It is an awesome look. When I finish the top I will share photos.
