200605003 - Lake Como, Italy

On May 3rd, we took a train from Vernazza to Varenna on Lake Como. Lake Como is a beautiful large lake in Italy near the Swiss border. Varenna is a resort town on Lake Como with many large villas/hotels right on the lake. In Varenna we stayed at the Hotel du Lac which was right on the lake. We spent the afternoon making reservations for the bus trip to the Milan airport and walking around Varenna. Varenna is perched on a hill, but it has an awesome lake walk which went pretty much from our hotel to the public boat landing. Our hotel had a bar/dining dock area where we had an afternoon glass of wine overlooking the lake. That evening we had wonderful crepes at an outdoor café also overlooking the water. The next morning we took a ferry ride across the lake to Menaggio where we walked around a bit. After we returned from Menaggio we took another ferry from Varenna to Bellagio (the original). In Bellagio we walked up to the main shopping area. Bellagio, like the version in Las Vegas, has awesome shopping. Eventually we returned to Varenna to catch the bus to the Milan airport..
