Hummingbirds
Our house has 2 courtyards. The smaller of the two is between the casita and the main house. The window in the study looks out into this courtyard. A couple of weeks ago I was working on the computer and looked out the window and saw a hummingbird in the courtyard. He buzzed in, looked in the widow at me, and buzzed out. Up until that moment I thought that this courtyard was too small and too enclosed to draw birds, but I figured if he could come in and look at me he could come in and have a sip to eat. So we bought a shepherd’s crook pole and a hummingbird feeder, set them up, and waited and waited and waited. (Apparently I still need to learn patience.) After a week I cleaned the feeder and changed the food but still no birds. After another week we had a big windstorm and the feeder was blown around so much that all the ende up on the ground. That next morning a bird came by but of course there was nothing in the feeder and he left. I quickly refilled it and that day we had 4 visitors. I spent that day fighting with the computer so perhaps we had so many birds because I was in the room to see and hear them. Since that day I have seen several birds at the feeder. I hope this feeder will be popular. I love seeing them.
Books
I just finished ‘Snow Flower and the Secret Fan’ by Lisa See. If you read and enjoyed ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ I think you will enjoy this book. I personally could not put it down.
