Later, he moved in and was actually walking on the rocks near the patio.
But something spooked him (it could have been me) and he flew out to wall seats around the fountain.
And then back to the wall,
and then to our neighbor’s tree behind the wall. But always watching.
Eventually he flew back onto our large garden stones and checked everything out.
And then he came across the rocks to the patio and took what was his.
And I understood why that dove had hit the window so hard he broke his neck, and why the hawk had been so patient. And why my backyard had been so quiet for the last few hours.

Nice spam above. Do you know how to get rid of it? Might be nice to know.
Anyway, I showed a few of these pictures to a birder at work. He said it was most likely a Coopers hawk.
