I have been filling a bird dish with a song bird mixture every day for several weeks now and we are getting more and more bird visitors. We have a hummingbird feeder in the front courtyard and this saucer thing in the back along with a water dish. Even though the back is completely fenced in with a brick wall, I have been hoping to see some Quail in our yard. (I see them running all over the place here, ‘Quail Creek’ don’tcha know.) Anyhoo this week I bought a Quail Block - a big block of seed I assume Quail like to eat. The first day it was out, none of the birds seemed to notice it. The second day, a few birds poked at it. And on the third day I saw first 1 Quail in the yard and then a little family of quail, 2 adults and 2 little ones.
Here are some of our frequent guests. I especially like the little red headed ones.
Quail Block with adults on top, little ones on the side, and water dish in the background.
They are so pretty and so fun to watch as they race around. One day I saw about thirty, mostly little ones. One grouping consisted of 2 adults at the front of a line, 10-12 little ones in the line and another adult behind hurrying all of them on.
After a while, this one stood on the wall and watched as the other adult and the little ones ate and rested.
We have been having a fair number of stormy evenings with great thunderstorms. I and my camera are not quick enough to get any lightning but here is a photo of the sky.

Great birds and sunset pictures. To get pictures of lightning, you have to do time-lapse. Nobody's fast enough to get a live shot at the time, unless they just get lucky.
