20080110 - South America - Buenos Aires

We’ve been back from our trip for almost 2 weeks now and I am finally coming out of the fog. When we got home we were both sick with colds, so it has taken me a while to get it together. I still have close to 1,000 photos to transfer to the computer and organize so I am going to start at the end of the trip and gradually talk about the beginning.

We ended the cruise on January 10 in Buenos Aires. We did not make up our mind about taking a ship’s tour of Buenos Aires until it was too late (The tours were all booked up.) As a result, we got off the ship, waited in a long line for a Taxi to our Hotel, and arrived at the hotel too late to take a tour of the city from the Hotel. Luckily our Hotel was in downtown Buenos Aires and we were able to walk around the downtown shopping area. This was one of the main shopping ‘malls’ in Buenos Aires.

It was a very busy Pedestrian Mall. Very European in style.

The whole street was a study in contrasts, modern contemporary buildings next to very old, highly decorated buildings.

Old Sculptures, Churches, next to Modern shops.

Old buildings housing modern businesses.

Modern building housing old facades (Felt a little like Las Vegas)

And in the middle of it all Burger King and McDonald (I couldn’t find the shot of McDonalds, though I swore I took one)
