I am going to start posting more about our South American Cruise. I am still working from the end to the beginning. The last time I posted about this trip it was January 10th and we were in Buenos Aires.
On January 9th the ship docked in Montevideo. I took almost 500 pictures so you can imagine the editing job I am doing. I am just guessing you are not interested in viewing 500 pictures here, especially of a place you never thought of visiting. Because I want to share the sense of the city with the photos not a detail view, I will be using a fair amount of collages (4 pictures in one), sorry if you hate them. Montevideo is a very beautiful city. In the morning we walked a bit around the city, then in the afternoon we took a tour of the city and the area around it..
The city has many tree lined streets,
Beautiful old buildings,
Amazing details on roof lines,
Some wonderful modern buildings,
Street vendors,
And wonderful sculptures.
This building had a very cool figurehead.
Poor people collect recyclable garbage with these horse carts to survive
We went to Plaza de la Armada - a park with a sculpture dedicated to people who died in the Sea.
We drove by the river beaches:
Rocky beaches
Swimming beaches
Hotel beaches
Marinas
These trees were full of green parrots - this was as close as I got to a good photo
When we left, we had to have a tug push us out. The first time we had ever seen this, most of the time the ship‘s bow thrusters are up to the job.
That evening on the ship was the final formal dinner so they served Baked Alaska. This our bus boy with our Baked Alaska.
