You remember last month I published a picture of my Chapter 2 homework from ‘Art Quilt Workbook’ by Jane Davila and Elin Waterston. When my group looked at it, they wanted to turn it upside down and make what I saw as the sky, water. They had several reasons for doing this but when I got home and thought about it, I realized that what they really wanted was a horizon. Even upside down the piece was split too evenly split between the sky and the horizon.
This was my Chapter 3 homework. After the last homework assignment I decided to put a horizon into this one. In addition, I spent the month really looking at the mountains and trying to see what color they were at various times of the day. I also took some photos from our back yard to get a narrow view of them. Then I decided to put something in the foreground. I did not want to use the saguaro (it seemed like it is overdone) but it worked out to be the one that I could actually do. Then I saw a different way of doing the background appliqué, so I decided to try that. Overall I like this one a lot better than the first one.
On to Chapter 4. I already have some ideas for that one. This process is really cool.
